Some background

“That is what all important art is about. It invites your attention to the previously overlooked and negligible, and shows that the unconsidered is deeply considerable.”
From an interview with Jonathan Miller, The Guardian, Sat Jan 10th 2009.

The last one to bed in our household I became intrigued by the look of empty family rooms as darkness fell. I set out to try and capture the feeling of these rooms.

Sitting with friends talking late into the night I was struck by what could still be seen even in a very dark room - and I added this to the exploration of darkness project.

Our cats bring in dead mice from time to time and one morning I stopped to pay some attention to the chewed remains. I became thoughtful about these little deaths and decided to photograph them.

Overall I'm interested inmaking work that challenges assumptions.
I'm interested in communicating ideas and feelings.
I don't like work that is purely intellectual - I'm interested in art that stimulates emotional and intellectual responses.

The work may not always be easy to understand - but should engage the attention.

The work may not always be easy to look at - if it is very dark it is because I want the viewer to have to really look.
